Review: Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan

N.B. Spoilers ahead

A family friend, Sofi, wanted us to read a book together so I indulged her. I wasn’t really sure what to pick so I went to my TikTok TBR folder and saw this reaction video and the person was crying about Archer so I thought…"this should be good” if it can warrant such visceral reaction.

After reading, I’m happy to say…she was overreacting.

Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan

Archer’s Voice follows the story of Archer and Bree. Bree goes through a traumatic event that sends her to a new town in Maine where she meets Archer, a loner by reason of an equally traumatic event.

Q&A

What was your favorite part of the book? When Bree’s dog ran into Archer’s compound…that was pretty funny and serendipitous. I mean it did give her the perfect excuse to be there.

‍‍What was your least favorite? Anything that had to do with Travis. Although he repented from his evil ways at the end. I was screaming in my head when he took Archer to the strip club 😭

Did you race to the end, or was it more of a slow burn? It was perfectly paced to me. I didn’t race to the end but I skimmed through many of the s*x scenes and there was a lot!

‍‍Which scene has stuck with you the most? Archer leaving Maine to understand what life was like outside all his ever known. Sometimes, being in the same place keeps your field of vision limited so all you see is impossibilities.

Would you want to read another book by this author? I would. Matter of fact, I’ve added Travis to my TBR.

What surprised you most about the book? That Archer was mute. I loved the portrayal of his character, the use of italics to represent him speaking in sign language and his character.

Is this book overrated or underrated? I’m not sure because the Tiktok video I saw where this book was mentioned, the reader was crying and I thought it was a melancholic book but it wasn’t as sad so she definitely exaggerated but the book itself I think is fairly rated.

Would you ever consider re-reading it? Why or why not? I don’t think so; there were too many s*x scenes for my liking.

Did the book strike you as original? Yes it did.

Did you like the "heat" level of the book? No, but I know some will.

Was the couple's connection believable? If so, at what point did they click for you? Their connection is believable. I’m also praying for a man that will pick out all the folded potato chips because those are my favorite. Archer is very thoughtful albeit clingy. I think the dream/vision she had on the beach about her dad was like a foretelling that she would meet “her person” in Pelion.

Did this book melt your heart? Make you believe in love again? Sometimes it did. I think I liked her being embraced by people in the town even more than her relationship with Archer.

Favorite quotes and passages: “How do you teach a person to trust in something none of us can guarantee?; “ I didn't know enough to dream you, Bree, but somehow you came true anyway”; “She asked me the sign for love and I spelled out your name.”
