It’s barely half an hour to the 24th of September and I’m here writing a birthday blog with no direction whatsoever :)
well……happy birthday Oluwagbemisola omo Olugbenle!

While this new age is sounding serious, my life doesn’t “feel” serious……at least from where I’m standing and where I had hoped I’d be. That’s the biggest thing on my mind……that there is more.
They say that your 20s are the trenches and I agree😭. It’s the foundational decade. In construction, the trench is where things are connected and wired underground, structure is outlined, capacity is engineered and the building is reinforced. Without the trenches, a future collapse is almost inevitable.
Here’s a book (The Defining Decade by Dr Meg Jay) I plan on reading again in my late-20s and recommend if you’re entering your 20s or in the middle of it.

I’ll tell you one thing though: I cannot wait to enter my thirties! because my 20s have been wonderful to say the least and I guess it tracks because you get to understand yourself as an adult and there’s a whole “becoming” which I believe we are always pressing towards being a better version of ourselves.
I hold all the beautiful moments closer but I know that the not so great ones have left a scar that testifies to God’s power, love and faithfulness that keeps holding me together. For that, I am thankful. My thanksgiving is 1000x greater than the “woe is me”.

In this “big” age, I’m taking a design sabbatical (on the business front), making room for more traditional artwork that leads to an exhibition, selling original art, moving again, continuing the Conversations and Colors podcast with guests this time and getting the “big girl job”. I want this year to be the year where I no longer let the “horrors” of the past hold me back. I want to delete it (even from the cache) and no longer allow it to define me.

As for birthday plans, honestly, I didn’t have one until one of my cousins asked, after which I gave it some thought and I think I’d get a good massage and probably schedule a photoshoot. I do plan to make myself a tasty burger. Today, I miss my free Starbies drink and cookies from Tiff’s Treats💔
My birthday tradition typically is going to an art gallery or museum, writing a poem, eating some good food and get a cake and champagne.
I don’t have poem written this year, but this one resonates which I had penned when I turned 24:
If each year were an hour
Then I would have spent
Merely a day on earth;
