Likes, Highlights & Spotlights of January - March and all the things I got up to in this brand new year

Happy New (3 Months into the) Year Friends, I started a monthly unwrapped segment last year which turned into more of quarterly reflection and going back through these entries healed something in me. So I’ll be continuing this as a quarterly reflection called #gbemsquarterunwrapped, part blog — part editorial. Here’s Edition Q1::

A book I enjoyed reading was Between Friends and Lovers by Shirlene Obuobi. It was an easy read; the plot was good, the drama was dramaing and the ending was satisfactory. If she had chose the other guy, I’d have been pissed lol. Rating 8.9/10.

skincare finds, got the Bolden Under Eye Patch in the ISWIS gift pouch given at the Lagos Live Show December and I just got to using it. It’s refreshing and like to apply mine straight from the fridge..cold. My mum saw me with the patch and she goes “kilo soju e (what happened to your eye)” lol. I was like what??

in my workspace is the Wacom Intuos Tablet which has saved my work because my iPad (which I use for illustrations and a second screen) decided to lock me out so I have to reset it to its factory settings. This is the most upsetting thing that has happened to me this year. So atm my iPad is somewhere collecting dust while I wait to find an Apple store (or speedy network) to revive it.

teas on rotation, Rishi’s Earl Grey and Elderberry have been on a rotation. I have also been on a matcha frenzy. I make the matcha my self and add condensed milk…10/10 recommend. The raspberry leaf tea has also been handy for the period phase but the taste is not my favorite.

I watched Culinary Class Wars, Dynamite Kiss, Sullivan’s Crossing, Single’s Inferno, Love is Blind (when Brittany’s dad asked Devo... “did you lie to me”😭), What Now Pod by Trevor Noah, Michelle Obama’s Pod and some Nigerian movies on Omoni’s YT.

no art-design spotlight but I have a Substack Spolight: I read this beautifully written post on Substack called Permission. I relate to the nth degree and I also choose to give myself permission.

fashion highlight is a mini tennis bracelet — the Ijele bracelet from ITURA Jewelry.

en repetition is Let Your Sound by Uncle Dunsin Oyekan :: you know how sometimes a song plays in your spirit…yeah since January it’s been this one and then the recently released song, The Sound by Gap Worship (use your soundddddd).

personal highlight is the Conversation and Colors podcast and written form on Substack. It’s been a form of creative therapy for me and I’m inviting other creatives and multi-hyphenates to join me in the virtual room. I’m grateful for Paintmilk too; the patterns repository is gradually growing and I still have some silk scarves for sale.

I can’t forget core memories like Wa’ti and Deji’s wedding in Abuja and enjoying the company of my closies, getting the tightest cornrows in history, having the best ramen at Rara Ramen and getting bitten by some evil insects.

Welcome quarter two…let’s play☺️

My #songsonrepeat are in this specially curated playlist on Spotify.

Till next time,
gbemizzy :)
